Local author Ivan Maisel's memoir, I Keep Trying to Catch His Eye: A Memoir of Loss, Grief, and Love, is the town of Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾'s 2023 community reading selection.
Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ University is honored to host local author Ivan Maisel, whose memoir, titled I Keep Trying to Catch His Eye: A Memoir of Loss, Grief, and Love, was chosen as this year’s Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Public Library “One Book One Town” reading selection.
In partnership with the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Public Library, Maisel will speak about his memoir on Tuesday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. This is the first time that a book by a Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ author has been named a "One Book One Town" selection.
I Keep Trying to Catch His Eye is an honest, deeply emotional memoir in which the author reflects on the loss of his son, Max, to suicide, the impact of grief on family and community, and the painful journey that brought Maisel to a place where he could see grief as an expression of love.
Ivan Maisel is vice president/editorial and senior writer at the college sports website and has covered college football for nearly four decades in various capacities at ESPN. He and his wife, Meg, reside in Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ where they’ve raised three children.
Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾’s annual community reading initiative, named “One Book One Town,” began in 2008 when a committee of members from Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Public Library, the Pequot Library, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ University, Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ University Bookstore, and the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Public Schools met to select the first town-wide read.
Copies of I Keep Trying to Catch His Eye and its companion books are available to borrow at either location of the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Public Library and at the Pequot Library; books can be purchased at the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ University Bookstore. “One Book One Town” and its attendant programs are made possible through the sponsorship of The Friends of the Â鶹´«Ã½ÊÓƵÍøÕ¾ Public Library.
